Nancy Morton: I'm so glad to have joined the GSTC! Over the last 3 years or so, I've been struggling with injuries, asthma and depression. I had knee surgery for a torn Meniscus, suffer from trigger thumbs and have had several cortisone shots. Last August, I broke my ankle playing tennis! No wonder I'm depressed! Lol. I left a job I loved, working as a Fitness trainer/instructor at the Fitness Edge almost 5 years ago to take on the position of Parks & Recreation Director in Sandwich, my hometown. The job keeps me pretty busy, but I don't take the time to exercise regularly for me. I make sure everyone else is leading a healthy and active lifestyle, but I have found it extremely difficult to practice what I preach. Physically, I haven't felt as strong as when I was working in the fitness profession. Dealing with so many injuries and having a pretty stressful job, can take a toll on your physical and mental well being. Because of the depression, I lost over 30 pounds and was so sick I couldn't work or leave the house for 6 weeks! I've gained all of that weight back, plus another 20 pounds in the past 2 years, making it the heaviest I've ever been. Two years ago (January 10th), Mike and I got a Border Collie named Bandit. He has totally changed our lives for the better! I often say "who rescued who"? Bandit helped me through the darkest days of my life and he is so much fun!! He comes to work with me at the Rec office and also rides along in Rescue sometimes when I go on calls. (I just completed my EMT Intermediate and work as a volunteer EMT for the Sandwich Fire Rescue Department, a job that I love!) By joining the GSTC, I think will really help me overcome my slump and also motivate my husband to work out with me too! I have alot of friends already in the club and have missed working out with them so much! I can't wait to see them and to make new friends! Happy New Year to all! Nancy
