Ironman France

Great experience...absolutely will continue to train to do another.  After only 9.5 months in triatholons and working out, I'm beginning to see that there are some serious levels of fitness out there.  The rest of this season and next I will work on technique and speed...next year I plan to concentrate on Olympic and 70.3 distance races (will try to enter tough courses like R3)..  Need to get Bike up to speed ...the mountains were unforgivable in France.

Also work on techniques in swimming and better navigation.

IRONMAN FRANCE was an outstanding experience with tremendously fit athletes.  I'd recommend this race for any serious triathlete.

Pre-race routine: Got up very early due to inability to sleep...had bannana, protien bar, Powerade, Buttered Bread then walked to beach to load bike with nutrion and drop off Race Bags

Event warmup: Easy Strecth to loosen up

Swim

Comments: First time in shotgun start (2500 plus)..made it difficult to get out from being intangled by slower swimmers...had to swim parallel to shore to get free. poor nav withg all the swimmers chop..overall slower than expected due to bodys in water

What would you do differently?: Start on outside and try to accelerate initially..also need to work on nav and just more swimming...overall great experience

T1

Comments: New to getting bags vice all in transtion areas

What would you do differently?: Remenber postion of bags in bag area for ease of finding

Bike

Comments: Brutal course over 112 MIles..tough for a beginner biker that did not practice on mountains like this

What would you do differently?: Bike...Bike...Bike and then more Bike

T2

Comments: Took time in this transition for hydration.. nutrition and leg recovery from Bike

What would you do differently?: not much just be in better shape coming off Bike

Run

Comments: Had problems with right hamstring initially..right on the verge of cramping...eased pace until last 5K..wanted to ensure comfortable finish

What would you do differently?: Better Bike

Post race

Warm down: Stretch in shower

What limited your ability to perform faster: Hills...and first IRONMAN experience improper pacing

Event comments: Overall great race experience..who said the French were rude? I had nothing but the best support and race was planned effectively and efficiently..Also you cant beat the location
